Hockey players satisfied with improved facilities at Senior Men’s Nationals in Imphal

first_imgThe hockey players participating at the at the Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championships in Imphal are now living under better conditions after their initial complaint regarding basic amenities.The players said they had no beds to sleep and the washrooms, with water leakage, were drowned in water.Because of the non-availability of beds, the players were seen sleeping on mattresses on the floor. The players also complained that they have not been provided with blankets.A day later, many players complained that they were falling sick because they did not have blankets despite it being very cold.WATCH FULL VIDEOIt now seems that the authorities have worked out the problems and the players are now satisfied with the facilities provided to them.The players have now got two mattresses per player, heaters, proper blankets and the toilets provided to them are also being kept clean.Manipur’s Hockey Association has rectified the issues and are even setting up proper food menu, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian after players complained that they were getting one piece of bread per plate and that too cold.Akshay, a player from Delhi told ANI, “It was a bit difficult to adjust on day one, but it takes time to adjust to a place at first. Now everything seems alright. When we arrived there were fewer numbers of mattresses, now they have carpeted the floor and extra mattresses and blankets have been provided. There are geysers and room heaters as well and mineral water is there for drinking. Now the facilities being provided are satisfactory”.advertisementHe added that the Manipur Hockey authority is taking good care in terms of sanitation and food is also freshly served.Elena Norman, the CEO of Hockey India, said that the needs and necessities of the players has been put on priority and she believed that the players were satisfied now.”We have been here for a couple of days now. The state association and the state government have worked very hard to address some of the concerns of the players. I believe now that the players are quite satisfied with what is being provided to them. I hope if anything else comes up, they will address that to us directly and we will help them to rectify it. Some of the concerns from the players were obviously food which I believe is totally being taken care of now. Everyone is quite happy with the food,” Norman asserted.Earlier, India Today had spoken to Indian hockey great MK Kaushik, he had said that now facilities are usually very good for the hockey players but Hockey India need to delve better when it comes to juniors and nationals.”Now hockey is doing very well and everything is organised well but for the tournaments for kids and upcoming players, they still need to look at the facilities,” MK Kaushik said.”Nationals are very important for selection processes and mostly senior boys play in B division of Nationals and so, I think the facilities have to be checked before and allot someone.
