Weekly unemployment claims spike after quiet period

first_imgThere were 1,194 new regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance last week, an increase of 358 from the week before. Altogether 12,022 new and continuing claims were filed, an increase of 180 from a week ago and 2,450 fewer than a year earlier. The Department also processed 1,950 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 76 fewer than a week ago. In addition, there were 891 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is a decrease of 7 from the week before.
